Federal Title IV aid and state financial aid regulations mandate that federal and state aid can only be used for courses that are required for your degree or certificate program. If you enroll in any courses that do not count toward your degree or certificate, those courses cannot be included when calculating your enrollment status (e.g., full-time, half-time, etc.) for the purpose of determining financial aid eligibility.
If you are using financial aid to pay for your educational expenses, course applicability could impact your aid eligibility and/or disbursement.

Federal and state regulations for financial aid mandate that an eligible student receives aid only for courses that count toward their degree or certificate program.
Your Academic Advisement Report is available on the MyUMGC student portal. Current term courses listed under ‘Courses Not Applied to Degree’ will not be counted toward financial aid eligibility.
You will receive an email regarding courses you enroll in which are not applicable to your program. Also, we strongly recommend you review your Academic Advisement Report through your MyUMGC student portal after you register for courses to make sure they are showing as applicable to your degree program.

Elective courses are applicable up to the number of electives permitted for your program, as per the degree or certificate requirements.
If applicability for one of the courses you are enrolled in changes within the term, your financial aid will be reassessed. This could mean that previously disbursed aid would be returned, resulting in a balance owed to the University.
