Policy VII-9.51-GC UMGC Policy on Reassignment of Exempt and Overseas Staff Employees

  1. Purpose and Applicability

    This policy establishes the authority of the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) or designee to reassign or modify the duties, responsibilities and/or reporting relationships of Exempt and Overseas Staff employees on Regular Status at any time.

  2. Definition

    Reassignment: The movement of an employee from a position to another similar or comparable position. Reassignment shall be made with consideration of the employee's knowledge, skills, abilities, and salary.

  3. General

    1. Based on operational needs and/or organizational necessity, the CHRO or designee may modify the duties, responsibilities, and/or reporting relationships of an employee's position at any time.

    2. The CHRO or designee shall provide an employee with written notice of reassignment prior to the effective date of the action. A change in work schedule or location shall require a minimum of two weeks' notice.

    3. Employees may schedule a meeting with their new supervisor to discuss new assignment duties and responsibilities.

    4. Failure to report to the reassigned position shall be considered an immediate voluntary resignation.

Implementation Procedures

The UMGC President has designated the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to administer this policy; to develop procedures as necessary to implement this policy; to communicate this policy to the ÐÒ¸£±¦µ¼º½ community; and to post the policy and any applicable procedures on the UMGC website.
