  1. Purpose

    In accordance with the , the University of Maryland Global Campus ("UMGC") seeks to promote a healthy, smoke-free environment for all students, employees, and visitors.

  2. Scope

    This Policy applies to all UMGC locations that are either owned or controlled by ÐÒ¸£±¦µ¼º½ and to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (collectively referred to as "UMGC Community").

  3. Definitions
    1. Smoking: Refers to carrying or smoking a lighted tobacco product or the burning of any material to be inhaled including, but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, hookahs, marijuana, and pipes. Also refers to any device that simulates tobacco smoking including, but not limited to, e-cigarettes and vaping.
  4. Policy

    Smoking is prohibited in the following areas:

    1. All indoor locations. This includes the stairwells of the College Park Marriott and Conference Center parking garage.
    2. Outside of buildings within 25 feet of any building entrance, air intake duct, or window.
    3. Other areas designated by no-smoking signs.
  5. Compliance with Policy
    1. All members of the UMGC Community are expected to adhere to this Policy. If a member of the UMGC Community violates this Policy, he/she may be subject to administrative and/or disciplinary action in accordance with UMGC policy and practice.
    2. Smoking will be monitored by UMGC's Security Office and members of the UMGC Community are expected to notify UMGC Security (301-985-7371) if anyone is smoking in violation of this Policy.
