Ceremonies to be Livestreamed and Include Virtual Components

Adelphi, Md. (Dec.Ìý9, 2021)—University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) will hostÌýitsÌýwinterÌýcommencementÌýonÌýSaturday, Dec. 18.ÌýUMGC will award more than 8,000 degrees this winter, withÌýnearlyÌý2,000 graduates, along with their guests,ÌýattendingÌýtwoÌýin-person ceremoniesÌýat Xfinity Center in College Park, Md.Ìý

NOTE: All graduates and their guests must show proof ofÌýfullÌývaccinationÌýagainst COVID-19 to be admitted to the Xfinity Center.

Keynoting the morning ceremony, which begins atÌý9:15Ìýa.m.,Ìýwill be entrepreneur, veteran,Ìýand ÐÒ¸£±¦µ¼º½ alumnaÌýGinger Miller, who isÌýfounder, president, and CEO of Women Veterans Interactive Inc. She was recently appointed by President Biden to the USO Board of Governors.ÌýÌý

Addressing graduates in the afternoon ceremony, which begins at 3:45Ìýp.m.,Ìýwill be theÌýHonorable Jazz M. LewisÌý(District 24, Prince George’s County),Ìýwho was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates in February 2017. He serves on theÌýAppropriations CommitteeÌýandÌýhas worked tirelessly to focus on the issues important to everyday Marylanders.Ìý

In addition, a virtual recognition websiteÌýwill be availableÌýwith personalized slidesÌýforÌýmore thanÌý7,200 graduates​, which include photos and messages from graduates.Ìý

Each ceremony features a graduate selected in a competitive processÌýto address their classmates.ÌýBrittany RenfroÌý(Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security)Ìýwas chosen to speak at the morning ceremony, whileÌýJayla NowlinÌý(Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology)Ìýwill address the afternoonÌýceremony.Ìý
