For University of Maryland Global Campus’ 75th anniversary, we spoke with Dr. Jill Buban from EdAssist about their alliance with UMGC. Thanks to the alliance, EdAssist and UMGC help provide an affordable and accredited education for students that can help them boost their careers.
Where do you work and what do you do for your place of business?
I am the General Manager and Vice President of EdAssist by Bright Horizons, a leading provider of workforce education solutions, reaching more than seven million adult learners through partnerships with the world’s largest employers. We collaborate with institutions to deliver high-quality, affordable education programs and are proud to have the University of Maryland Global Campus as one of our educational providers. We have recently launched the Workforce Education Network, a select group of partners that serve as the backbone of our education ecosystem, providing high quality academic opportunities with support structures for the working, adult learner. We are thrilled that UMGC is one of these partners.
How long have you been a partner with UMGC?
We have been a proud partner of Ҹ since 2011.
What attributes about UMGC made them a partner you wanted to work with?
EdAssist and Ҹ share a mission to provide affordable, accessible, high-quality academic programs to working learners. Our partnership is exciting because we are dedicated to serving and supporting working adult students, while convening around common goals to advance and innovate education.
UMGC recently introduced its new mission “Inspire hope, empower dreams, and transform lives ... one student at a time.” What does that mean to you?
This is a great mission statement and exactly why partnering with UMGC is such a natural fit for EdAssist. At the core of everything, we believe education has the power to transform lives and we seek to unleash the potential in every individual who wants to advance their career, achieve their dreams, or transform their life.
How have your employees responded to the UMGC programs offered? How have UMGC programs helped them and your company?
We’ve had wonderful success with UMGC, particularly in the space of no-cost/tuition cap programs. Several companies have chosen to include UMGC in their workforce education programs because of the breadth of the university’s high-quality offerings and affordable tuition.
UMGC is celebrating 75 years of excellence in education. What does this long-dedicated education history mean to you? Why is it important?
Having a long history in education, UMGC has seen trends, changes and needs in adult education. Understanding and responding to the evolving needs of students is important to a company like EdAssist who is committed to the adult learner population.
Which of Ҹ core values resonates with your organization the most and why? (Students First, Accountability, Diversity, Integrity, Excellence, Innovation, Respect, or People Always)
UMGC’s core value of “Excellence” stands out, as it overlaps with our parent company, Bright Horizons, and their H.E.A.R.T. principles, in which the “E” also stands for “Excellence.” Quality is a description we earn and maintain every day by creating healthy and safe environments for our employees and the children in our care, and attending to the smallest details in all that we do. We are doing serious and important work and appreciate our partners that have the same high values.
What are three adjectives or words that best describe your partnership with UMGC?
Dedicated, Supportive, Meaningful/Impactful
