ADELPHI, Md. (April 4, 2018) —Dr. Emma Garrison-Alexander, vice dean of cybersecurity and information assurance in the Graduate School at University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and a highly sought-after speaker and thought leader in information technology and cybersecurity, has won the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Incorporated (CAMI) People’s Choice Award.

Before a sold-out crowd of 300 attendees at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore on March 27, CAMI, in partnership with PNC Bank and Point3 Security, honored 13 individuals and companies judged to have outstanding cybersecurity products, services or programs, or to have made a substantial contribution to Maryland’s cybersecurity industry. 

“Being selected among six highly qualified finalists, all seasoned cybersecurity professionals, is a tremendous honor,” said Garrison-Alexander of her People’s Choice Award. “Here at UMUC, we have one of the world’s strongest and most innovative cybersecurity education programs. I’m thrilled to be part of its leadership team,” she added.

Dr. Garrison-Alexander has more than 25 years of security and information technology leadership experience within the federal government. Before joining UMUC, she served as assistant administrator for information technology and chief information officer for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) under the Department of Homeland Security. She led TSA's IT organization with an annual budget responsibility of $400 million and was responsible for all aspects of IT services for more than 60,000 employees at 450 federalized airports and 23 international locations.

Garrison-Alexander has received numerous industry awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis (2015), the Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Maryland University College (2012), the Sterling Leadership Award from the Information Technology Senior Management Forum (2011), the Government Information Security Leadership Award from (ISC)2 (2011), and the Excellence Award from the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (2011).
