UMGC Global Media Center Nine UMUC Graduate Students Selected For Presidential Management Fellowship Program

Leadership and Commitment to Public Service Keys to Selection

ADELPHI, Md. (April 23, 2013)—Nine graduate students at the University of Maryland University College have been selected to become Presidential Management Fellows for 2013, the U.S. Government’s Office of Personnel Management announced.

The President Management Fellowship Program seeks the best and brightest master’s and doctoral students who have demonstrated a breadth and quality of accomplishments, a capacity for leadership and a commitment to a career in the management of public programs and policies. This year, a total 663 master’s and doctoral students were selected nationwide.

The selected UMUC students include:

Seon Davis (Fort Washington, Md.) Deysi Duque (North Miami Beach, Fla.) Herbert Frazier (Herndon, Va.) Patricia Freeman (Las Cruces, NM) David Morgan (Germantown, Md.) Dmitriy Radchenko (Ellicott City, Md.) Chuck Smothers (Glen Burnie, Md.) Christopher St. Clergy (Lakewood, Col.) James Wilson (Arlington, WA)

“This is wonderful news that speaks to the quality of UMUC programs and the exceptional character and accomplishments of our students,” said Marie Cini, UMUC’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “Their collective commitment to a life of public service is an extraordinary inspiration to all of us, and I extend my congratulations to each one.”

Students selected for the program are eligible for a leadership-track fellowship appointment with a federal agency. The paid fellowship includes a full-time placement, agency rotations, and the opportunity for accelerated promotions to a long-term leadership position. Interviews and placements for the fellowships will begin shortly.
