Adelphi, Md.—University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that it has received a $25,000 gift from Deloitte LLP to provide 10 students pursuing a Master of Science degree in either Cybersecurity or Cybersecurity Policy with a $2,500 scholarship for the fall 2013 semester.

Scholarships will be awarded through a donor-sponsored competition that will take this spring, and will be open to UMUC cybersecurity graduate students.

"UMUC is grateful to Deloitte for this generous gift, and for investing and believing in our cybersecurity students," said Javier Miyares, president of UMUC. "Deloitte has been involved in our cybersecurity programs since the beginning, and we are honored to have the company’s continued support."

UMUC launched its bachelor's and master's degrees in cybersecurity in 2010 with direct input from a team of leading experts in the field—including Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Harry D. Raduege, Chairman of the Deloitte Center for Cyber Innovation.

The university’s cybersecurity programs have been designated by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.

"Cybersecurity is an issue that impacts all of our clients, no matter what their mission. We at Deloitte are pleased to have established this relationship with UMUC, an institution that is at the forefront of meeting the cybersecurity education needs of tomorrow," said Amry Junaideen, principal, Deloitte & Touche LLP.
